I've been asked on several occasions to write Public Service Announcements for communities around the nation.
Here are some of them. Use them and re word them as you see fit. All I ask
for is credit be given to 21st Century Cares, Inc.
| Person #1. Did you see the photo of that adorable little puppy laying on his back? Someone put it on my desk this morning and said it was at the Huntsvill animal services. I went down there to see if she was available for adoption and they had already euthanized her. They say they put anywhere from X to X asleep each week and many are young puppies and kittens because too many animals come in on a daily basis and not enough people to there to adopt. Narrator: We can put a man on the moon and cure diseases, but cannot seem to instill a message in our society of identification for pets, proper fencing and NO MORE LITTERS. (that should be yelled into the mic) And the next person who tries to justify their litter to me, by claiming 'But we find good homes for our pets" is gonna have to be punished for sneaking in under the 'duh' factor. |

person 1 Aw, I was driving down _______ Street this morn and saw the cutest little tiny puppy crossing The street all scared and thin. Looked like he hadn't eaten. I wanted to save him, but refuse to take a dog to the pound cause he'd be killed there. Person 2 I know, isn't that just awful? You'd think they'd try to do something about the problem so they wouldn't have to be killing al these poor animals. I'll bet our tax dollars even pay for that. That just makes me so mad. NARRATOR: Yes, it makes the people at the animal services angry, too. We are required to accept all animals turned over to us. It seems to be impossible to for citizens of ___________to grasp the importance of spay and neutering. If we are forced to kill 8 million adoptable pets in the US each year, you'd have to be a complete idiot to bring another litter into the world right now/. We know exactly what it would take to stop all the unnecessary killings, reduce the number of stray dogs and cats and help to locate your lost pet within hours of its disappearance and we've told you. We've told you many times. We've tried many different ways. But when the dirty truth comes out, the public gets angry with us simply to cover up the fact that they are really to blame. Until you've volunteered at the local facility for a month and can understand the impossibility of our job, please don't' further assassinate our efforts to help the animals that are in our care. |

# 1 (in a real snotty disgusted tone) I was down at the dog pound last week to see if they had my cat yet? They don't. God, what in the world do they do down there? I'm just looking for one cat. It's been an entire week and they haven't even called me. They even got a little attitude when I told them he wasn't wearing identification tags. He doesn't need to wear them - he never goes anywhere. they gave me the same grief the last time I was there trying to find him. #2 Well, if it never goes anywhere, then how could it get out and get lost? Don't you see that this is exactly what they mean. $1.98 at a pet or drug store will get you a metal I.D. tag with an engraved phone number to hang from the collar. A mere $15 will get a permanent microchip[p that can't be lost and carries all info forever. The 5th of July is our biggest problem with runaway pets. They hear and see the fireworks, are simply terrified and run for safety. We tell this to people every year. We had over 450 additional dogs and cats that day from normal. Most had no identification and had to be killed since the humans never came looking for them. If we were to find them, even though their pets got out and ended up dead, their response would be 'BUT THEY DON'T NEED I.D. BECAUSE THEY NEVER GOT OUT BEFORE THIS''. Is that stupid? |

Person #1 - Well I was AT THE dog pound about a month ago to take my dog in to be adopted. I told a friend to go adopt him the following day and he was already dead. I was so mad!!!!! Their job is to adopt out pets. She was a good dog!!!! I loved her to death. Person #2 - Well, if she was so good and you ''loved her'' then why did you get rid of her? Person #1 - My new carpet came in and it would not have worked well. NARRATOR: THIS IS THE TYPE MENTALITY WE DEAL WITH 10 TIMES A DAY. IF YOU GET A PET, IT'S YOURS TO CARE FOR TILL IT'S 12-15 YEARS OLD. this agency is here primarily due to irresponsibility on the parts of the Huntsville area citizens. IT'S ALWAYS THOSE WHO REFUSE TO PLAY BY THE RULES THAT WILL ASSURE THAT OUR TEAM LOOSES THE GAME. |

Animal organizations around the world seem to always be telling everyone what to do. Well, now we've come to you with some options. Decisions for YOU to make. Let's say you are contemplating a new pet: You could pay $200 from a backyard breeder who really isn't as knowledgeable as they want you to think, and the quality of their dogs could certainly be brought into question as well. Then over the next year replace your remote control, three pairs of shoes, the cord to the iron and two sofa cushions, not to mention the vaccinations, cost to spay and neuter and the training to suit your needs. (training that you are not likely to succeed at) Total $1, 450 before you finally take this dog to the dog pound out of sheer disgust. (Most of the dogs turned over to the local pound are done so because the human admitted they just failed at their training and could take it no longer.) Or you could simply begin at the dog pound and look for ''this same dog'' or others like it. They are already spayed and neutered, vaccinated, housebroken, past their digging and chewing stages, know how to sit and walk on a leash and will really reward you for taking him or her out of this place. total $35 complete - out the door, finished. And you know what? This will be one of the best dogs you've ever had in your life. These wonderful dogs and cats are available daily at this and all area dog pounds or rescue facilities. Trust us, you are not the only one who gave up on the puppy idea. Try something new for a change. You might find it works well for you. |

There are approximately 50,000 dogs in the ___________ area. Nearly 8,000 are locked outside or tied to a fence post because the human refuses to use their head. Yes the dog will bark. It will bark and upset the neighbors till you receive so many complaints to animal services that you no longer speak to each other. In time, you will not even notice the dog barking since it happens to frequently. But you won't 'think' because you are 'right'.
When you are broken into by a burglar or rapist, the dog will bark, but it can do nothing to help or protect you since it has no access to your living space. Again, this might apply to others, but it certainly doesn't apply to you because you are ''right'', huh? It will finally die, but not due to natural death. It will be put to sleep at your request. why?: Because you can't afford the lawsuits coming in, or you finally paid a little attention to the dog and realized it has a growth in the ear and the vet said it would cost $500. Had you noticed this six months earlier, the vet cost would have been $39 for an office visit and then $20 for medication. Yes it will destroy any and all parts of the area he or she is restrained to. They want and need exercise, stimulation, socialization and love. But you thought it would protect you locked in the back yard. Tell me, is that rusty old boat trailer really more valuable than the lives or your two children and spouse? By the way, if you think that beinjg inside the house prevents your dog from recognizing intruders on your property, then you are truly in need of some education. So, now you've lost some friends, don't speak to your neighbors any longer, your pet is dead and a pending lawsuit is threatening to take your house. But it sure was nice to be 'right' all this time, wasn't it? EDUCATE YOURSELVES!!
